PA File Sight and veeam

Viewed 7

We plan to install PA File Sight on a production file server running Windows Server 2022 Standard. The server uses Veeam Backup & Replication 12.3.1.1139 with Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows. We perform both volume-level backups of the system and data volumes and file-level backups of shared folders.

Does the PA File Sight file system driver have any known compatibility issues with Veeam Agent, VSS snapshots, or volume-level and file-level backup operations? Are there any recommended driver settings, exclusions, or precautions for this configuration?

Hi Sergey,
We use Veeam here on our servers with the Veeam Agent on many of them and have never come across any problems, nor have we heard of any in support requests.

As a general rule we always recommend ignoring the C:\Program Files\PA File Sight\Databases and C:\Program Files\PA File Sight\Config folders from backup since grabbing a partial copy of those database files will (if it was changed during the backup) result in a corrupted database file.

However, you probably want to keep configuration backups so backing up C:\Program Files\PA File Sight\Config\Backup would be fine (you'll see a daily backup of your configuration is made into that folder).

For backing up the data that PA File Sight's monitors record, you'd need to stop the PA File Sight service and backup the \Databases folder while it is stopped, or probably better, point PA File Sight at a MS SQL Server and then do database backups from there.
