We have certain critical alerts set to be sent to text messages on selected peoples phones. Many times, randomly, the text alerts will be extremely slow to go out. For example, a critical alert is generated at 2:30pm, the email comes instantly, but then some users will not get the SMS text alert until hours or even a full day later. Has anyone else run into this? It happens on multiple carriers: Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile, and will be random. Looking for help in narrowing down this issue.

Hi Chris,

The service doesn't queue any alerts, so they go out immediately (the service log can confirm this), but what happens at the carriers is not visible to us.

How you are using SMS, are you using it directly, or through an email gateway, or are you using our mobile app notifications? Whichever it is, it might be worth switching to a different method.

FYI SMS is "best effort" but not guaranteed, and it does involve queues. If a recipient is not reachable, the SMSC queues the message for later retry. Here is a link to more information on the queuing. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/SMS#GSM

Thanks
Quinn
